3D Environment Design Workshops
Hands-on training for artists who want to build game-ready environments — from terrain sculpting and modular asset pipelines to real-time lighting and scene optimisation.
What We Offer
Each workshop runs as a structured sequence of assignments — you produce actual assets, not exercises. Participants keep everything they build.
Environment Foundations
Covers scene composition, modular tile sets, and the asset pipeline from Blender to Unreal Engine 5. Suitable for participants with basic 3D knowledge.
Terrain & Landscape
Procedural terrain generation, height map workflows, and biome painting using Unreal's Landscape tools. Focus on performance budgets for open-world projects.
Lighting & Atmosphere
Real-time lighting setups, sky atmosphere, volumetric fog, and Lumen global illumination. Participants light a complete interior and exterior scene.
Texture & Material Work
PBR material creation in Substance Painter, tileable texture baking, and material layering inside Unreal. Covers wear, damage, and environmental aging effects.
Optimisation & LODs
Draw call reduction, LOD generation, nanite mesh setup, and profiling with Unreal Insights. Participants benchmark their own scenes against a target frame budget.
Portfolio Review Sessions
Live critique of participant work by practising environment artists. Feedback covers composition, technical quality, and how the work reads to a studio hiring team.
Structure Behind Each Workshop
Structured Assignment Sequence
Each session builds on the previous one. You do not jump between topics — you complete a defined task, get feedback, then move forward. The sequence is the same for every participant so peer comparison is meaningful.
Fixed Session Length
Live sessions run for 90 minutes with a defined agenda. Recordings are available for 30 days after each session. There is no expectation to watch hours of passive video — the work happens during the session.
Small Groups, Direct Feedback
Groups are capped at 14 participants. The instructor reviews submitted work and responds directly — not through a forum thread. If your scene has a specific problem, you get a specific answer about that scene.
Asset Ownership After Completion
Everything produced during the workshop belongs to the participant. The files are yours to use in your portfolio or personal projects — no licensing restrictions apply to work you create.
Participant Outcomes
Urendamax has been running these workshops since 2015. The numbers below come from completed cohorts — they reflect what participants actually reported, not projected figures.
The Lighting workshop changed how I approach scene mood entirely. Before this I was guessing with HDRI values — now I understand what Lumen is actually doing and why certain setups tank performance.
Portfolio review was blunt and useful. The instructor pointed out that my tiling was too obvious at mid distance — something I had never noticed. Fixed it, and the scene reads much better now.
